Gluten Free Pizza - DELIVERED!

My birthday was Wednesday and one week ago, I had a cervical fusion.  So, I am on bed rest for one month.  I am so bored.  I should be blogging more but I choose to play on EBay and online shop.  I may be homeless when this is all over.  But, I digress….

The Man and I decided to order in pizza and have ice cream for a celebration I could engage in and we ordered from Isopo’s Downtown Pizza on Erie Boulevard in Schenectady.  They have recently launched a Gluten Free Pizza and I decided to give it a try how I like it best - extra cheese baby!  It was AMAZING!  The crust held together and was thin and crispy like a nice thin crust NY pizza, the sauce - which they make from scratch daily - was the perfect blend of tomato and spice, sweet and salty, with a hint of a meaty taste to it - and the cheese was fresh.  I cannot say enough good things about it.  Plus, it was deliverable, which for those of you who are gluten free know, is nearly impossible.

I encourage you all to try Isopo’s Downtown Pizza - tell them Gretchen sent you!

In future blogs, I will be bringing you through my post surgical journey to lose 60 pounds via Weight Watchers and trying to stay Glamorously Gluten Free!  I encourage you all to join my journey in spirit and thought!

I am a total slacker….

October 11th!  October 11th?  This was my last post…and worse then that, I promised you a recipe.  So, let me fill you in on what has occurred between then and now as my feeble attempt to help you understand unfolds.

So, October 26th, minding my own business, and BOOM!  Totaled my car.  I realize this was two weeks after my last post but I got busy, what can I say.  Fast forward a few weeks of pain, and I finally see the doctor and after seeing many more doctors, I am diagnosed with two herniated discs in my back.  Which, for those of you with back pain know, makes any and everything in life more difficult.  By the time I got home from work and did all my girlfriend duties (minds out of the gutter people - I mean making dinner, laundry, cleaning up, spending time with my man, etc.) I was wiped.  So, alas, here I am April 12th, scheduled for surgery May 2nd, and without a thing to where to this event.

This is my solemn vow to you, my valuable readers, I promise to get back on my Glam and Gluten Free wagon and give you quality information, recipes, photos, and the occasional peek into my zany life.  I also vow to change it up a bit and start including posts related to living healthfully and gluten free, which is hard to do.

So, leave me some comments, tell me what you have been up to, give me the dirt, tell me you hate me, whatevs, and I will use your info and motivation to get off my duff.

XOXO

O’Toole’s Joins the Gluten Free Movement

Okay, okay - its been a long time since I posted, but in my defense, I have been feeling uninspired.  I am getting there though.  LOTS of new receipes, adventures in dining out, and even my first wedding as a GFG.  So, lots will follow.  For today, I have a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!  O’Toole’s Restaurant (conveniently located next to my fave store - Kohl’s) has a new menu complete with a little “GF” symbol in green for items that can be prepared gluten free.  How’s that for ingenuity?

I am so thrilled, because,d rum roll please, they have NACHO’s!  They just happen to be one of my fave appetizers so my little (okay big) fanny will be over there soon to check them out.  Until then, I leave you this to devour over.  And hey, maybe I will see you there!

My least favorite four-letter word?

DIET.  No other word in the English language conjures up images of salad and spritz dressing then this word.  Its why I have been absent for so long, why I have no ambition to post.  I have been on a diet.  Its not enough that I get diagnosed with Celiac Disease and my body reacts to 3/4 of the things I ate before, but that lost quarter has now been reduced to a paltry few items that are allowed to pass these lips.  I hate it.

Today though I woke up with a thought.  Here I sit (7 lbs later) saying to myself - how can I continue to seek out what the Gluten-Free World has to offer and still stay within my calorie debit account!  I am on a new mission to share it with you, and find it for myself.  Stay tuned for my post on Guilt-Free (and Gluten-Free) Chicken Marsala recipe.  I made it last week for the man and even he liked it - well so he said - and I want to share it with you.  It is awesome as leftovers too.

Ask - it can be delicious.

http://www.thecheesecakefactory.com/Locations/locations#

Sis wants to get together - sis with no dietery confirnements, that is.  She wants Cheesecake Factory.  And my Droid - not helping me find the necessary menu items I can have that may not hurt the tum tum.  What is a girl to do?  ASK!

Our waitress was so great, and friendly, and although unknowldegable about the disease itself, very ready to assist!  And sis?  Not at all embarassed - although I liken that to the Bloody Mary’s she had for breakfast.

What did I much on…wait for it….NACHOS!  That is right, smothererd in cheese, served with sour cream and salsa, little crispy bites of heart attack causing, artery clogging temptation.  And worth it!  No illness, no bathroom running.  Just amazing.  And all because I asked.  Alas, I have no photo for you, but I promise next time.

Now, I cannot say all Cheesecake Factory’s will be as pleasing, but this was a great experience and one I will return to again and again.  Now, if they can just figure out how to get their double chocolate fudge cake to be gluten free, I would buy stock.  No joke….

Happy munching,

Gretchen

1 in 133 people in the United States are living with Celiac Disease.  Although we have come a long way in our bids to make eating just as easy on us as it is on others, the federal government has yet to require proper labeling on foods containing gluten.

The website below is an organization dedicated to getting the word out by allowing citizens the chance to sign the petition, donate to the cause, and share the news (as I am doing here).  I encourage any and all of you, your family, friends, and co-workers to sign on your behalf.

Help spread the word - and get the government on board - by signing the 1 in 133 petition via the link below.

Love that everyone is jumping on board….

During my usual pre-start-my-work morning routine, I scrolled through my Facebook news feed and to my delight, I found this post from Real Simple:

http://www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/recipe-collections-favorites/desserts/gluten-free-desserts-00000000055171/index.html

A whole article dedicated to Gluten-Free Desserts.  And once I drooled over the mouthwatering photos, I was amazed to find that their next post was about 15 Gluten-Free Snacks.

Kudos to Real Simple for their posting, and to having us Gluten-Free Guys and Gals backs.  We applaud you!

On Today’s Menu….

How delicious does this look?  I only wished I could send taste-a-vision through the computer.  This was my lunch at Sherry Lynn’s Gluten Free Restaurant in Latham, NY.  Besides this, they have anything you can imagine on the menu and if they don’t have it, they can tell you where to find it.

And the best part?  It’s local, you can get it to go, and most of it, you can buy on the other side - the shopping side.  Besides my lunch, I left with peanut butter cookies, a chocolate chip cookie, pizza dough, crackers, and rolls.  And all for the basement bargain price of $42!

If you have not been, I recommend the trip.  Their bread is also outstanding!  And no worries, future visits will accompany future yummy photos!

Bon appetite!
